AAR Special - May Update

Splined Rear Hub

I'll make this a short entry regarding progress on the hubs. The problem was I had acquired four splined rear hubs which has presented a couple of cost and engineering challenges to suit a CycleKart. The solution has been to adapt the 'front' hubs by machining out the spline and modifying to accept bearings. At the rear we have left the splines in tact and opted to have the axle splined. We can do this approach as we'll be using a differential. To achieve this we have had to place the 'out...

AAR Special - May Update

We'll there has been quite a bit of progress to finding a solution to the hub problems since the last update (refer back to some of my earlier journal posts for more details). In summary I acquired four splined rear hubs, good for consistent look but presents some engineering cost challenges. Anyway my good friend Darryl has come through with the goods again! The solution we arrived at was to leave the rear hubs alone and have the axles splined (we are using a differential) whilst the 'fro...

AAR Special - April Update

Taken but not forgotten

Well it's been quite sometime since I have updated the journal on the build progress of the AAR Special. Progress has been slowed somewhat as I've been away with work and Darryl and his talented son Taylor have been busy preparing numerous super-karts for the Queensland (Australia) racing session. The biggest event over the last quarter has been the theft of the custom built GX200 from the workshop. Darryl had constructed a custom manifold, oil tank and exhaust system, so very disappointin...

The AAR Special - New Years Update

Posted on: Saturday January 2, 2016

Well being the new year it's a good time to give a general update on the AAR Special. As per my last journal post the diff arrived Christmas Eve from the US which has enabled Darryl to finalise the rear axle configuration. That being the welding of the inner bearing support brackets, the brake caliper mounts along with machining the final drive sprocket adaptor to the differential. As depicted in the photos the torque converter's primary drive sprocket is directly positioned above the ax...
