Planning pedal powered cyclekart

I am in the research and planning stage of building my first cyclekart. It will be pedal powered because there is no place to ride a gas one where I live. It will have front suspension like regular cyclekarts but at the front axle ends, remote front steering will be done through 2 bmx bicycle head tubes. brakes and drive will be at the rear. drive will be through a Sturmey Archer CS-RF3 rear hub with 3 internal gears and a wide range cassette for a huge gear range. Front crank will have a 53 tooth (maybe higher) gear for a top speed of around 27 mph at 80 rpm cadence. wheels will be 20x2.125 Wheel Master BMX wheels mated to 3.00-16 IRC moped tires. It will be adapted from the Atomic Zombie Streetfighter Quad (see picture).

Patrick,

Welcome to the Cyclekart Club.
That is an interesting concept you are investigating. Its bad luck you can’t run an engine in the back end of it.
Are you planning to build a body for the kart.
My younger brother has built a couple of gravity racers using bike part. For him there are no pedals or and engine.

The body will be made like a cyclecart. It will be a core of 1/2" or 3/4" Lite Ply with holes cut out to form a space frame. The space frame will be sheathed by a layer of 1/8" lite ply inside and out. Covered then by thin fiberglass/epoxy. Rounded parts molded over a foam plug (male mold). Lite Ply weighs around the same as balsa. I also may go with 2.50-16 tires instead of 3.00-16. 3" may be a bit too wide. Long Island has no place to race. Anyone with an acre or more has to be pretty well off. Neighbors would call the cops in a second if I ever tried to use a gas powered cyclekart here. I am retiring to a large property in ND in 5 years where I'll shoot guns, build catapults, and race cyclekarts as much as I damn well please.

Sounds like a great plan.smileys with beer

When I get going good on my commentating career I should make about half a mil a year which will be great and when I save enough I will build a gigantic racing arena on my dads property which consists of 180 acres and then I will invite everyone on the forum to race carts.

Also let me know how the cart is coming, when you get the chance take photos of the build and post em also.
Would like to see em.
