Ok so i have my wheels, but i have no idea how to get them on the cart.

Could someone either point me in the right direction or write a quick tutorial on mounting the wheels to the live axle hub? This is almost the last thing i have to do on the Kart before painting it.

Michael, do the wheels still have the old bearings inside? (quite likely they do).

If so, the first step is to get those out. You need a bearing puller tool for that.
I have one you can borrow.

Yes they do have the bearings in them. I'm going to snap some pictures of my set up so you guys can see what I'm up to. The front wheels will be mounted the exact same as the rear. The hubs I have are very different from the normal way karts are built. We will see if it's an improvement or a step backwards. tongue sticking out smiley

Michael,

Have a look at the info from the Gitterville crew about rear wheels and hubs.

Can somebody measure the distance from the frame to the inside of the wheel?

I'm trying to find out the distance they need to be so the tires don't rub when turned all the way.

Measured at the wheel center, mine is about 8 inches from frame to edge of the wheel.

Because my frame is tapered, so that the rear of the frame is wider than the front, at the rear edge of the wheel, the distance between frame and wheel with the wheels pointed straight ahead is about seven inches.

With the wheels turned so as to bring the tires as close as possible to the frame,
there is about 2 inches between the frame and the tire.

I wouldn't worry about this too much. Worst case scenario, you just refrain from turning your steering wheel too hard to one side or the other. I've seen real live cars with license plates and inspection stickers and everything with wheels that rub. That being said... I've seen your frame, and it is not tapered, so it is rather much wider in front than mine is, so you may have more to worry about.

But, in from my frame to wheel center distance is 8 inches, and turned all
the way, there is 2 inches between tire and frame, then that means the wheel
essentially has 6 inches (maybe 5 inches -- the extra inch being accounted for
by the tapering of my frame) of movement. So if you have at least 6 inches between frame and wheel at the wheel center, you should be ok.

I'll give it a try at 6" and see how it goes. It looks like my front wheels will be wider than the back by 2" hope its not noticeable. confused smiley
