Hey Brian! You are correct, I have been back from Tieton long enough to have posted all my videos and get back to building. Other that missing a weekend at a trade show and one for my mother's 90th birthday, I have no excuse. As luck would have it I am just about finished with the editing of "Race Day" and there is some good footage and it's worth the wait.

In the building department I have been rebuilding the Monocar after my crash last December. I missed my baby this year at Tieton. This is the car I have raced for four seasons and I feel the most comfortable with. I enjoy driving the BMW but its a cruiser not a bruiser if you know what I mean. I have all new sheet metal installed and I fit a new (old) gas tank to replace the super small minibike tank. The small tank was leaking at the bung so I had to keep the tank empty or smell of gas would be throughout the garage and house. Steve Vinson had an old tank that was almost identical to my original tank so I willingly made a new mounting bracket and completed the install. I'll be test driving tonight. As expected I shot a video of the Monocar rebuild.

I am planning to upgrade the Monocar and give it a new paint job. The Monocar is currently running all go-cart parts (which are less than Ideal) so I plan to install current technology like new spindles, new rear hubs, new rims (current rims are from the salvage yard), a differential and juice brakes. I figure the upgrades and re-spray will take a month. All of this will be the subject of another video of course.

Since we are very active as a club down here I need to finish the Monocar before continuing the Studebaker. I am chomping at the bit to get back to the '37 and I wish I was retired. I'd be on it everyday!

As a side note, Steve Vinson and I went to Clarkdale Arizona (100 miles north of Phoenix) and pitched the idea of a Grand Prix event in there small town. You can see a post on my Facebook page from last week. We gave a presentation to their business alliance group (nice folks) and they were open to the Ideal of combining a Cyclekart event with a car show maybe next spring. I'll keep you posted as we continue to promote the sport.

Thanks Dennis
We just got bak from a Rod Run I have been attending in Yakima since 1982.
Have been to Yakima 3 times since Tieton............if I would just stay home a little more, maybe my Kart would be finished???
I will get back to it (actually worked on it in my head on the long hot smoky drive home today....forest fire season!) very soon, as I am still stoked!
I will keep my eye out for upcoming videos.
Thanks
Brian

OK Group,

Can anyone tell me what happened to the Thomas Monocar? Dennis do you have a story to tell us? I sure hope for the amount of damage that no one was hurt.
Curious minds need to know, whats up?

It's generally not customary to elaborate on our, ahem, incidents.
Negative press and all, you understand.

The FAA publishes it's monthly Accident & Incident Data. Is a big help
in preventing future incidents.
It's my feeling the same thing applies here, especially with the lack of
experience that many of the first time builder poses. Also with the builders
spread out thinly across the globe, Accident & Incident Data would go a
long way in helping them avoid the same mistakes.
How bout NASCAR: Tom Gideon, senior director of safety, research and
development for NASCAR said, "From 2002 to now, we've recorded over
6,000 incidents in the national series. All the vehicles in our national series --
which include Sprint Cup cars, Nationwide cars and Camping World trucks --
are required to have a crash recorder."
The least we could do is throw it out on the workbench here so the next
guy might benefit from it. Broken parts are nothing to be ashamed of when
you're pushing the limits of a frail machine. I'm sure Dennis T will be right
along with his full report as soon as he can find a spare minute.
He's still a working man you know!

Here is a WAG for you...

Movable object (Monocar) meets immovable object (something heavier than said Monocar)

As long as Mr Dennis escaped unscathed, its all good...

Right on Bow I believe if he wanted it publicized it would have been done. You have seen the pictures of the CK and we know Dennis is ok. If you have a burning desire to now PM him.

I don't believe Dennis would mind me telling what happened. The Arizona Cyclekart group got together to let a number of potential builders see and drive our karts. A lot of people were in and out of our cars. But somehow the quick disconnect steering wheel on the monocar wasn't fully engaged and the steering wheel came off while we were doing a bit of racing. Dennis had no steering control as the monocarp hit a steel beam upright.
