I bought a wheel, so I guess that means we have to build a second car! smileys with beer

I've been searching for a unique inspiration car and finally settled on the Kirk Jones built 1927 Nash Modified: The Legion Special.
This time around were going to do a much better job of making a video build series for your viewing pleasure. Ill try to post some pictures here as well as sharing the link to the youtube video.

Forgive my grammar..... I like beer.

Since we've got more than 60 days until Tieton this time, I decided to do a couple scale drawing to get an idea of how accurate I can get the build to the original. I couldn't find any side profile pictures on the internet, but I was able to find a Jan 2011 copy of Street Rodder with it being the feature car so I had to buy it! It has the profile photos i was looking for, so I scanned both pages and cropped them together. I got graph paper and began to trace it ( im far from an artist!) Each square represented 2 inches. I couldn't have been more pleased, it translates almost perfectly! just about 100" it total length and the wheel base is 76", so by shortening the wheelbase itll get me to under 100" which is where I want to be. the height translated to 28" tall with ground clearance being roughly 4" in front and 5.5" in the rear, im going to lower that to 3" I think and change the profile a little to make it a bit sleeker. Shooting for closer to 24" total height.

Anyway, im sure ill go into more detail in the video. Were going to do a test "intro to the build/ our history" video to work the kinks out of the video/editing process. Here's some pictures of where im at as of now.

Cheers dudes!

I too have one used front wheel that looks like that.
Looking for one more for project # 2.

I do love your choice, it is nice to see the American Hot Rod theme crossing into the CycleKart hobby.

Ah, that makes sense! I should have the full set here in a couple days.
Yeah I really like it! One cool things is that it's a single center seat, so it's already like a big cyclekart

Yes, one back & one front to find mates for.
But I am just at the gathering stage right now.
Concentrating my efforts on # 1 at the moment.

I followed the build of that car on the HAMB a few years ago but I checked and could not find any of the build thread left.

Today I was able to track down the builder, Kirk Jones, and he is going to send me a usb drive with all the build pictures. I couldn't be any more excited! Haha

Good morning gents!

Well, ive got a bunch of parts sitting around waiting for chassis steel to get here. So, things will get moving soon.

Started and Instagram account that we'll be updating as things are happening, so if you'd like to follow there here's the link smileys with beer https://www.instagram.com/team_doinitwrong/ smileys with beer
We will also be making build videos that will be put out every now and then.

Finally got the sd card with all the build photos, they show so much that I never even considered and basically had me redesigning the whole process haha
should make a big difference keeping it as close to the original as possible

more to come soon smiling smiley

Drew a scaled chassis on the graph paper, 1 square equals 1 inch then printed up a couple pictures with the body scaled correctly. Purely coincidence that the tires were about perfect too!
Everything looks like it'll work as I'm planning with a 68" wheelbase and an overall length of 84ish", 25-26" high, and 2.5" of ground clearance

It keeps cutting my last post in half.... Here's the second part of the post.

Only issue I see so far is fitting the engine and axel without making it any longer, might have to lengthen it by a couple inches as a last resort.

Going to start cutting steel for the chassis this week and get it back welded on Friday. Pretty excited to get things moving along!

Thanks Justin
2 1/2" ground clearance?????
Last year after your first heat in the Orchard, Don and I ran out to the back and lifted your CK up to see how badly the bottom was torn up.
Remember the rock sticking out at the top of the hill (you must have missed it).....but to our surprise it seemed to be unscathed.
So, the traditional 4" theory we all seem to hold as gospel may not be required?????
Good Roads
Woody
