The Arctic blast that is. Between you and the rest of your bunch......you been
sendin' your COLD Canadian air down here, don't cha go sendin' us any more.
I can't get nothin' done in the barn when it's that chilly out there.
-12° F this morning when I went out to the barn, -19°F with a breeze. That old
furnace out there, like me, can't keep up with those kind of temps.
And......it looks like we're in for at least another week of this stuff.
Damn (again) it's cold out there.
Oh......and to top it off. When I headed out to the barn at about 03::00,
walking past sweetie face's Ford Escape, it had a LR tire, flat to the ground!!!
Gonna be one of those days, I can tell already!!!

Warm and snowing here......just -6 C.
But, my son is in Saskatchewan for Christmas and New Years and it has not been above -30 C for a week with wind chill in the - 40's C everyday. Left his beer to close to the back door and it froze inside the house.
I spent the day in the Cyclekart shop yesterday with the heater on all day, but still had to were a coat to work in.
I sort of like this weather, as there is nothing else to do but go out in the shop or sit in front of a warm fire with my laptop, dreaming of CycleKarts.

A few years ago I built a shop/garage out behind my house. It's only 36 x 28 feet, but it has 10 inches of insulation above the ceiling and 5 inches in the walls. The south facing 36 foot wall is lined on the outside with solar heaters. On a sunny day they put out 114 degree air and if it's cold outside they might get down to 100. No sun, no heat. I have a small portable electric heater for a backup, but it only comes on a half dozen times a year. The shop maintains a temp of 65 or more all winter long. No heat bill!
today it's about 10 degrees outside and 72 in the shop.

Yeah, but your down there in the tropics Bob,
orta be easy to heat the shop.
My old shop was 45x42 with a 14 foot ceiling.
Had 12" Ceiling joist with 12" of glass batts, walls
were 6" (pole building) and the whole interior had
a white metal liner. No windows and I heated that
entire space with a single barrel stove in the coldest
weather.
My problem here is it's way to big of an expense and
would be a major task to put a ceiling in this old barn.
So......I have live with what I've got. Been keeping it
around 50 at ground level and it's been at or below
zero for a couple of days. That's better than not being
able to work out there at all.
I've been warning sweetie face not to panic when the
gas bill comes in, it's gonna be a doozy.

I think we had this discussion last year around the time you broke your wrist Denny.
I don't know how you guys handle it. The So.Cal climate must be hardwired into my DNA, despite being 35 years removed from it. To this day, unless the business demands it, I just can't get much done in a sub 50f. shop.

Yep, and that gimp wrist really put/puts a bind in thing around here,
but.....it is what it is and I'm learning to live with it. Just came in for
supper and I'm tryin' to get my toes thawed out. Can't get it over
that 50°F mark you mentioned Dave, and things move real slow at
those temps, I spend most of my time exchanging cold gloves for
warm gloves I hang in the heat vent. The killer is I can't wear gloves
when I'm at the lathe or mill, which I'm at 50% of the day, and that
cold steel really numbs my hands. I don't think the floor is more
than 35 or 40 and all day on that makes for cold feet.
But....lots of buts here, but I'm gettin' a little bit done here and
a little bit done there.
We got a few inches of snow Sunday Brian, it's snowin' right now
a couple inches by morning and they're forecasting 3-5 inches
more tomorrow thru Saturday. So.....I know what I'll be doing
this weekend.

Hey Don
You look to have received about as much as we did yesterday.....broke a record set back in 1923 for the most snow on Dec. 28th.
Plowed for 3 hours today with a 7 ft blade on my Tractor!
finished at 3:00 pm.......by 6:00 we have already received 3" and it is accumulating at a rate of 1"/hr, and not supposed to end until noon tomorrow.
Another day on the tractor instead of in my nice warm shop working on the Miller.sad smiley
