Do parallel springs need to be parallel?

I’d like to taper my frame from say 20” inside width to say 16” at the front of the kart while still using my VKC springs. I plan on using a tube bent front axle. I would guesstimate the spring alignment would be about 1 1/2 to 2” tapered, what are your opinions on this? If this is too much I know I can get away with at least an inch by staggering the rear spring eyes using staggered spring shackles. Your opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Randy

Good morning Randy
Once again, depending on the what your inspiration car is?
The spring attachment can allow for the stagger as you mentioned.
But an extra little kick will also work!
To answer your question though....no....parallel leafs do not have to be parallel.

This tapers from 20 down to 16, and has no issues. IMO youll be fine

The Stevenson cars were far from parallel and were just fine.

Thanks fellas, I think that clears me to go for a standard frame design with the width I need.

Brian, what do you mean by a little kick, are you talking a staggered shackle? As far as my inspiration kart I hope to
keep it as the Hudson but will see if the taper spoils the look.
