So here we go!
Snow has just started falling lightly (just in time for Christmas and our "First Snowfall Party" we were
going forward with, snow or no snow!thumbs up
It is officially time to think about an "Ice Racing CycleKart"??????smiling bouncing smiley
But.......how practical is it with Global Warming and all?
How simple do you have to build it for limited window of FUN!
So maybe I should be thinking about a "Multi Use" CycleKart.........I know... they are already multi use!eye rolling smiley
And any one of our CycleKarts could be raced or driven on a frozen surface, just by adding studs to the tires.thumbs up
But as a dedicated "Ice Racer" it would require so much "less", as the following things would not play as important of role as
if they were being incorporated into a CK being built for events like Tieton.
1. Brakes......you could forget the hydraulics and used the simplest brake you could find, as brakes are useless on ice anyways.
2. Tires..........old shank knobbier would be just find no matter how worn out, as the would have to have studs screwed in anyways.
3. Suspension....could be as simple as you wanted as ice is relatively smooth anyways.
4. Body.........wouldn't really have to represent any specific period race car, as there would be few spectators to impress anyways.
5. Steering.........again, could be kept very simple, as the front wheels will have so little traction you will just be aiming it anyways.
6. Power.........as there will be no hills, you gearing is not that crucial, so you could run whatever you have left over in the shop anyways.
7. Muffler........noisy straight pipe will be fine as, as there are not too many homes in proximity to frozen lakes anyways.
8. Paint.......again, no spectators, no need, these could be the "Rat Rods" of the CycleKart world and lower the budget figures anyways.
9. Seat........no upholstery required.....most drivers will be wearing it to keep their butts warm anyways.

So, the only things I can see that you would require "more" of, would be:
1. Guts .........in case the ice is thin in your area!
2. Warm Beverages.........of the type to warm you up in more than just one way!
3. Friends............no fun fixing a broken chain on a frozen lake all by yourself!
4. More Warm Beverages..........that will help you attract more friends!
And finally......... the need for Speed,Fun, and Creativity.
Life is way too short to only think about doing, when we should be doing it!

Okay.........I know that this this thread is getting long winded, BUT......there is also another avenue that our stripped down, simple, little
Ice Racers may open up to us???
When the weather warms up, what is stopping us from taking them out to the dirt track and driving the crap out of the?

Personally, I think they would be a win win for so many reasons!

Merry Christmas!smileys with beer
Brian

PS
I hope it is snowing at your place to get you in the Christmas spirit!
