Over on this side, our events haven't promised a winner much more than a good time.
Nothing like prize money, certainly. So my sense has been that the width thing, like the engine and wheel size guidelines have mostly to do with maintaining the esthetic and continuity of the group of cars running around together. Of course, no one wants to send a participant home over anything that isn't a pretty flagrant effort at superior performance. We're all car people, and we know cheating when we see it. We also recognize when a builder, having made a good faith effort, still miscalculates and ends up a little out of spec.
As C/K event organizers, are we searching for a reason to exclude an entry? No. We want a nice event, full of cool cars. If anything, you're looking for excuses to let people run. When someone is clearly trying to push the envelope out for advantage, they rightly should expect the goodwill of the host to diminish.
