Pat H's 1958 MG MGA
|
I bought the car from Perth WA (in 2012). I am supposedly the fourth owner. It's a '58 (first registered in WA in '59) and was "built" into its "as purchased" configuration in the early 1980's which was:
- 18GG 5br
- Datsun 5spd
- stock drum brakes and stock suspension
- repaint (from Billeroy Blue to "Bold As Brass" yellow) &
- updated leather trim.
In the time that I've owned the car it has had:
- bottom end rebuild (re-sleeve, pistons/rings/bearings, balance, new oil pump, timing chain, etc.)
- new head & overhead gear.
- cam regrind.
- new clutch & clutch slave cylinder.
- new master cylinder (twice).
- full carby and linkages rebuild.
- gearbox front and rear seals.
- diff thrust washers and pinion seal.
- diff saddle rubbers.
- rear spring shackle rubbers.
- two new uni joints and tail-shaft balance (twice).
- twin thermo fans.
- oil cooler.
- 75amp alternator conversion.
- H4 headlight conversion.
- lap seat belts.
- steering wheel replacement (twice).
- exhaust replacement.
- extractors heat wrapped.
- new heat shield (twice).
- bilge fan fitted.
- 4 new chrome 72 wire wheels.
- radiator rebuild (twice)
- and then (in Nov 2014) a custom made aluminum radiator replacement.
- fuel pump and fuel tank sender unit replacement.
- Bosch distributor rebuild.
- driving lights.
- front shocker rebuild (twice).
- rear telescopic shocker conversion.
- electronic tacho conversion to "Jaeger" facier.
- replacement of Oil/Temp and Fuel gauges.
- replacement of turn signal switch (three maybe four times).
- heater rebuilt & fitted.
- disc brake conversion (with MGB uprights, spindles, rotors and calipers,
- rebuilt starter motor.
- complete wiring loom.
- Lucas L488 rear indicators and stop lights.
- and plenty of tidy up (e.g. engine bay tidy up, all radiator/fuel hoses replaced, door catches replaced, interior trim repair etc.).
... and as a side project (as of Nov 2014) is has had a speedster conversion with bumpers removed and front valance fitted.
UPDATE DEC 2017:
- repaint completed (silver);
- retrim commenced (pale red).
Next will be:
- front sway bar. and
- (if all the stars align) I would love to get a Supercharger kit from Hans Pedersen at HP Hi-Flow ( http://www.hi-flow.com/HP003bSuper.html )
...and thanks to Garry (who runs an Australian MGA register), I have the additional info:
"...
Your car was one of a batch of 12 CKD kits that were dispatched to Australia from the UK on 28th March 1958. It was assembled by PMC in Enfield on behalf of BMC Australia during August 1958.
You are correct in that the colour B/Blue is Billeroy Blue and it would have had Tan upholstery with grey piping.
